Underground vs Overhead Line Cost Comparison Reports PublishedIn response to public requests and to provide clear, data-driven insight, Green GEN Cymru has released independent reports offering a detailed underground vs overhead power line cost comparison. The reports clarify the financial implications of underground cable systems versus traditional overhead lines (OHL), helping inform ongoing infrastructure decisions.
The reports provide a comparison of OHL and UGC costs based on Green GEN Cymru’s proposed 1150MVA capacity network operating at 132kV.
These reports have been provided by:
- Cable Constructing International (CCI): Experts in underground cable system design, with previous collaborations with National Grid, Scottish Power, and SSE.
- Turner and Townsend: Global leaders in independent programme, project, and costings analysis. They considered inputs from UGC and overhead line (OHL) supply chain companies, including cable ploughing providers, to compare UGC installation methods.
