Consultation Overview

We are committed to engaging with communities early in the process to develop our proposals for connecting renewable energy to the electricity distribution network in Wales.

Non-statutory community consultation on the Garreg Fawr project is expected to take place in early 2026

We are committed to engaging with communities from the outset as we shape our proposals to connect renewable energy customers to the proposed electricity distribution network — and to keeping people informed through regular, ongoing communication as the project progresses.

  • We will be holding a period of non-statutory community consultation in early 2026.
  • During which we will publish a preferred route, supported on wood poles, for connecting the energy park to the distribution network.
  • At that time, we will be able to share a detailed map of the proposals, showing the preferred route and indicative wood pole positions for the Garreg Fawr connection, and invite you to share your views from an early stage.
  • The dates for non-statutory consultation will be advertised in advance to ensure broad participation. The early consultation will help us to identify issues and concerns, as well as benefits and opportunities, that can then be considered when developing the design of the proposal.
  • The design of the wood pole line will develop over the coming months. We will be engaging with landowners and seeking feedback from local people and statutory consultees to help develop the route, alongside environmental and technical assessments.
  • Communities and stakeholders will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and feedback on the proposals during all consultation phases of the project.
The planning process
  • The project will proceed under the new Infrastructure Wales Act. This means that developers must submit an Infrastructure Consent application to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) for consideration and decisions are made by Welsh Ministers.
  • We will shortly submit a request for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Direction to PEDW, formally seeking their guidance to help shape and inform our proposals.
