The required Bryn Gilwern Grid Connection is approximately 5km long and will be supported on wood poles.
Wood poles
The wood poles are typically between 14 and 16 metres in height, and average distance (span length) between the poles, is around 110 metres. The pole height and span length may vary depending on the terrain and obstacles they cross, such as streams and rivers. Where the line changes direction, angle poles with stay wires will be required for stability.
Project status
Thank you to everyone who took the time to engage and provide feedback during the non-statutory consultation held in autumn 2024. During which, we asked for your feedback on the preferred route and draft alignment, including indicative wood pole locations, as well as any other factors you felt we should consider.
All feedback received is being carefully considered alongside ongoing technical assessments, environmental surveys, and input from specialist organisations.
Scoping report
Our scoping report was submitted to PEDW in November 2025. Prepared in line with the 2017 EIA Regulations, it sets out the scope of the project’s Environmental Statement (ES) and marks an important step in shaping the next stages of the project. The scoping report is available on PEDW’s website under case reference SIP CAS-03516-H4Y0C8.
Next steps
We plan to hold a statutory public consultation during 2026, where people can review and comment on the detailed designs and the draft Environmental Statement before the consent application is submitted to PEDW.
