An update on our Towy Teifi project

In response to your feedback to our last consultation, as well as further assessments and feedback from technical stakeholders , we’re proposing to update the Towy Teifi project to reduce the total number of pylons, add more undergrounding, introduce a wood pole section and move it away from a number of towns and villages.

You sent us valuable, constructive feedback and asked us to consider how the project might impact nearby communities, the environment, and the surrounding landscape. We’re grateful for the engagement, and these updates reflect our commitment to collaborating with residents and stakeholders to reduce the potential effects in areas you’ve identified as important.

We are proposing a new 132kV electricity connection between Lan Fawr Energy Park, located east of Llanddewi Brefi, Ceredigion, to a new National Grid substation at Llandyfaelog, Carmarthenshire.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in our phase-two non-statutory consultation in spring 2025. Your contributions are helping to strengthen a project that works for those who live, work and enjoy recreation near our proposals.

As a result of these contributions, as well as further assessments and feedback from technical stakeholders, we are proposing some updates to the Towy Teifi project.

Among the proposed changes are extensions to our two sections of undergrounding near Merlins Hill and Llandyfaelog; a new route in Section One further away from Llanfair Clydogau, Cellan and Lampeter; and a new section of wood poles to connect Lan Fawr Energy Park. Further information on these changes, including updated maps, can be found below.

We know how important it is to keep you informed of project developments, so we wanted to share this latest update with you as soon as possible.

We will be consulting on the changes later in the year, during which we will be hosting another consultation with detailed information on all route updates and public events, where you will have the opportunity to meet the project team and have your say.

In the meantime, we are engaging with landowners about the updates we are proposing and continue to complete environmental surveys across the Towy Teifi project.

Our proposed updates to the Towy Teifi route

Lan Fawr update

Now that the generator has published details of its design for Lan Fawr Energy Park as part of its non-statutory consultationwe’ve developed a wood pole connection that will bring the energy into the Towy Teifi connection.

Proposed route changes

In response to public feedback, we’re proposing a new route in Section One, further away from Llanfair Clydogau, Cwmann, Cellan and Lampeter.

In Section Two, north-east of Aber Giar, we’re proposing a realignment further away from residential properties, where possible, while avoiding priority habitat and woodland.

In Section Three we’re proposing to move the route further west to increase the distance between the route and village of New Inn. This also reduces the amount of proposed infrastructure in priority habitats and avoids crossing ancient woodland where possible.

Section Five includes extensions to the proposed sections of undergrounding at Merlins Hill and Llandyfaelog in response to public feedback and further internal assessments.
